Default LS1 T56 vs LS2 T56, Any Differences?

I grabbed myself a L33 and am looking to put a manual transmission behind it. I was wondering if I could bolt up any ole LS t56 6 speed, or did it have to be one off of a newer 05+ and up manual transmission LS car?

I would have to agree, sometimes its easier to ask then it is to search through thousands of B.S. threads.

To answer you question, Yes it will bolt right up with no modifications or aftermarket parts. I just got mine running and it went without any issues.

Yup.
Pretty much all the LS stuff is interchangable, just make sure you have the right Pilot Bearing.

The gear ratios for the gears are different. The LS2 gets the same ratios as the c5 Z06. It makes a bitchin upgrade for the 4th gens though.

Here are the different Ratios.. the first number is the LS1 T56, as well as the base model LS2 T56.
The second number is the different ratio, the C5 Z06, and the C6 Z51 Corvettes got this different Ratio..

First:
2.66
2.97
Second:
1.78
2.07
Third:
1.30
1.43
Fourth:
1.00
1.00
Fifth:
0.74
0.71
Sixth:
0.50
0.57
Reverse:
2.90
3.28

Anyone seen the new Tremec T6060, it has different rarios as well..very close to the 1993 M29

Yea I kinda figured the bolt pattern was the same, but its good to know they use different a pilot bearing, have different ratio's and most importantly have the same input spline count.

Hey you never know, the LT1 T56 is a different animal all together.

PS: If anyone happens to search t56 difference(s) in the future, hopefully it will guide them here

I would try to score a MN12 6 speed out of an LS2 GTO...they should have the same gearing as posted above...and can take more punishment ie: hp/tq stock...or you can go to sixspeedsinc.com or tickperformance.com and get a stage two build like i did..i got mineon sale w/ new bearings for $1260 shipped!!

Do any LS2's have a T56 behind it? (talking engine/trans, not corvette) or are they all M12's?

Default mn12 to T-56 Conversion

Zach, the m12 is internally different the main shaft, gears, sycro's are all different, when you swapped an LS T-56 all you had to do was change the mid plate, input shaft and bell housing to convert to an early T-56 this goes both ways either one can be converted the other, I don't know if the m12 can be converted for sure but because of the input gear. I don't think you can make this conversion, but again I'm not an expert on this for more information check this out

Not sure if this will help ?
