Why do our Ls1's have oil pressure gauges?

I was surprised to see that the GTO doesn't have one.
My '93 Suburban has a "death gauge". I call it such because the motor has 193k on it and oil pressure gets fairly low at idle when the oil is hot (<15 psi). Burns about 2 qts in 3k miles. I should probably get in there and do something about it... naah, I'm lazy.

You guys laugh but I have a buddy whos really was at 0 for a long time. Convinced himself it was the Sending Unit. His car doesnt run anymore. BLOWN SKY HIGH. Oh and he is the only person who I have seen snap a rotor in half. Wore through the brake pads, backings and the piston was pushing on the rotor itself. Thats when it snapped. Some peoples kids. WHEW!!!!
