I see you're already warmed up and at idle, thats not bad really. How old is your oil?
Is it like that on cold start-up too?
While cruising at say 45mph, is the pressure a little higher than that?
As long as you have pressure, you're good. And these gauges aren't the best either.

Should I consider replacing oil pressure sending unit?
As a footnote, the car sounds great and pulls hard. I've checked the oil and it's clean with no metal shavings.....
Yes, it's around usually around 40, give or take.

i would replace ur oil pump because my buddys lt1 was exactly at the same spot as urs 4 about a month then failure he now needs a new motor.
his also pulled hard by the way just when ever he was at a stop or idling in park it woulg very low like urs.

The Mobil 1 by itself will drop your oil pressure, its thinner. If you're at 40 psi while you're cruising, you can't ask for anything better than that. Also, if you're at 40 psi on cold start-up when idling, thats GREAT!
As said though, it can't hurt to cut open a filter, but you are just fine.
One thing I would do, like "samson 420" said, get a true reading with a different gauge, that'll give you piece of mind. Its probably gonna read the same because its Mobil 1 synthetic.
