Default tcs light

I just bought a 1998 ram air trans am with 18,000 miles on it. The only problem I see is the tcs light is on saying it is off and the switch light (the amber one on the switch) is not lit and if you switch it on and off it does nothing. Is this a switch issue? and help appreciated.

I think the switch is supposed to light up, but my main concern is the tsc off light staying on, on the dash. Could a bad switch cause this?

Yes, no matter what the dash light stays on. I can click the button over and over and it wont go out. Guess I will try a new switch, thanks for the responses I appreciate it.

Don't know but have had that same problem in the past; sometimes the TCS light would come on for no apparant reason. I kinda doubt it is the switch though.

Are you the first owner? Or did it just start doing this?

A previous owner could have dissabled the TCS. Most people, including myself hate TCS. Unless your in rain / snow you really dont need it... to me its actually MORE dangerous to keep on. Nothing like pulling out into traffic and having the gas pedal kick back at you and drop your acceleration when a semi is coming up on you.

If it just started, it could be a fuse or the switch.

Yeah that's what I was going to say, check the wiring where it plugs into the wheel speed sensors and then where it plugs up onto the vehicle.

Okay, thanks guys I will check the wiring. I ordered a new switch but it has not came in yet. I am the second owner of the car. I bought it with 18,000 miles on it. How do you disable the tcs?

Well if the light is turned on it's already disabled but of course you can just push the button to turn it off. Or, you can buy a TCS logic module which make the TCS stay off until you turn it on by pushing the switch which is the opposite of the way it is now. Pretty sure you can just pull a fuse too. You can also adjust how the TCS behaves while enable by using a tuning program to edit the parameters.

If the light is on for no apparant reason I've heard to check for and clean off excessive metal shavings on your rear speed sensors as well. Not sure how this affects anything except if it affects the magnetism of the reluctor wheel. Might be worth a try.
