Default Ridiculously squeaky tensioner!!

for a while my tensioner has been making a bit of noise but it seems like its gotten worse. it doesnt make so much noise when the engine is revving over 2k but anything lower and you can visibly see it wiggle as well as make a ton of noise while it does so. should i replace the tensioner? the belt seems to be wearing fine and although the side facing away from the engine has a LITTLE wear on it it seems to be riding in place fine.

also would it be better to get one of those comp cam adjustable tensioner setups rather than the stock spring loaded if i can get my hands on one cheap???

If you can see it wobbling, it's only a matter of time till it has a catostrophic failure.

Replace it now on your time before you get stranded and have to replace it because it **** the bed.

I just put a new one on mine. Got it at the local Advanced Auto for about 17.00 - that's assuming you just need the pulley and not the entire mount. It's easy and cheap to fix.

i should clarify its not the pulley that is wobbely, what i am referring to is the loosening and tightening motion of the tensioner itself which is spring loaded.

alchemist youre talking about the whole thing right? also like i said would it be better to pick up one of the adjustable tensioners like comp cams makes (i mentioned above, and i can get it relatively cheaper than normal) or just get a stocker?

I would think you would be fine with a stocker from advanced or autozone.

If you try repacking your pulley bearings, make sure you clean up good after yourself. I've seen that tried before where extra grease came out of the pulley and got slung all over the engine. Made a helluva mess!

He's right. Mine was wobbling for a month before I replaced it with Katech's belt tensioner. Not only was mine shaking and squeeking, it was also giving off an audible false pinging noise when the engine was under load.
