I'm not saying it absolutely will overheat but its a major possibility.
Thats why I said, "Obviously, if you let it go for weeks and the coolant gets too low, then you will start to run hot."

It takes alot of coolant to be gone before it overheats. He's losing a little bit each time he drives it, so he's checking it often. Let it go for 2-3 weeks and maybe he'll start to run hot. Engines will run normal temps with alot of coolant missing. If the cap just started to lose its tension, he can go through this for months before it totally lets go and blows coolant out quickly.

Guys, odds are it's a water pump. You are all pointing out possibilities, but 90% of the time on ANY LS motor, it's the water pump.

True, but a bad water pump doesn't cause the overflow reservoir to fill up.

Can you top off the coolant when the engine is dead cold, leave it sit for 1 day, then come back and take the radiator cap off, NEVER having started the engine, and the coolant level is down????

yeah, ive been trying to keep the radiator full, put the cover on the car, come back a few days later and check the level in the radiator and the radiator is like 1.5 or 2" lower than when i topped it off, yes when i fill the coolant i let it bubble out the air and top it off

Its time to put the car on a lift and do a pressure test at the same time. Then you'll find the leak on the exterior visually. But if it's an internal leaking head gasket, you could fill a cylinder with coolant during the pressure test. If you start the engine with a cylinder full of coolant you can damage or even totally destroy your engine. So, if after the test you still can't visually see a leak, AND the coolant level is lower, you might want to remove all 8 spark plugs to make sure there's no coolant in a cylinder(s) before you attempt a start.

If the head gasket was leaking shouldn't i smell something in the exhaust, or seen whitish smoke coming out of the exhaust? Are there any other signs of leaking head gaskets?

If its a small leak you wont smell anything or see anything. Maybe a little on intitial start-up when the engine is cold. Usually when you have a leaking head gasket you will actually blow hot air from the cylinders into the cooling system and you will have major, and fast overheating problems.

You need to get a pressure test done, thats it. You will find the problem. Its cheap and you can have it done today almost anywhere.

You could have a tiny crack somewhere too. Its just wierd that it will leak out when the engine is not even started, thats some wierd ****.

ok guys heres the problem im having...im loosing coolent out of my overflow, but my radiator is still full. my light keeps coming on at random saying low coolent. its only happend once that the cars temp. actually moved but it got up up about half way maybe a tiny bit more then half but not even near 3/4 way.my car has the stock thermostat in it so it should run about 1/4-max alittle under 1/2 right? anyway that day i pulled over my radiator was still full but my overflow was empty. pured water in it and temp went back down and has drivin fine since. but i check it every other day nad it seems my overflow is still loosing a little bit. my car runs fine though and i do see some smoke out my exhaust but it doesnt look like coolent i dont think its the first car i've had with the egr and a.i.r taken off and no cats so i think its supposed to smell like **** and smoke a little (esp now that its cold it may just be the heat from the exhaust not even smoke...) so is this a problem or maybe just a radiator cap thats bad?

Do a pressure test, check immediately. Keep it under pressure over night. See if:
1. It will hold the pressure, or how much.
2. Where it leaks, if it does under those conditions.

I have seen them leak only cold, only hot, and intermittently. In those cases, it's usually a water pump. A reservoir leak is rare except in cases of:
1. An impact
2. Leaky battery (this is pretty common)

Your cheapest fix is to get a new reservoir and radiator cap. Replace, refill, bleed, and watch it. If that doesn't do it, water pump is it, almost 100%.

I may have missed it but did you confirm no coolant in oil or oil in coolant?
