Default Diappearing Coolant

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

My car is loosing coolant every time I drive it. I don't see any leaks, when the car sits there are never puddles under it or anything. I'm dumbfounded. Any idea's?

I replaced my ls1 intake with the ls6 about more than a month ago and it was not doing this so i don't think its the coolant lines underneath because i know they were tight.

Thanks in advance

Matt

Yes, back coolant lines were blocked off.

Are you talking about the radiator?

You should try pulling off the valve covers to see if there are any signs of a blown headgasket or even a cracked sleeve. I just finished fixing a 98 with less then 60k on the clock crack a sleeve that was doing the same thing you have explained.

fill the coolant up and do a leak down test. If bubbles are coming out of the radiator head gasket is gone.

The proper name is Cylinder leakage test, so sorry if that confused you. You usually would use a cylinder leakage tester. Which measures the % of air that is leaking through your cylinders. Doing this test would be pretty hard without the actual tester. You COULD hook up shop air to your cylinders with some connectors run about 60 or 70 psi through the cylinder and see if you get any bubbles in the radiator. Your best bet is borrowing or buying a tester, IF you wanted to do this test. I bet someone on the forum might have a better idea with whats going on in your engine. But for future reference cylinder leakage tests is a great way to diagnose bent valves, burnt valves, blown head gaskets, cracked cylinders or heads and im sure im forgetting some others....

Look in the PS pump reservoir and see if its milkly.
If so you've got a PS cooler leak.

If your reservoir is getting filled up you need a new radiator cap.

I agree. Go to auto zone and they will usually test the cap for you for free.

Mine has a little green dot on it and it has to line up with the hose from the throttle body. Don't ask me why but I had that little bastard on back wards and started to over heat. I tested it and it was fine. Put it on the right way and it has been fine ever since.

Has the car ever over heated badly before?

If it's not the cap and were me I would pressure test the car cooling system and pull the spark plugs. If coolant comes out of the plug hole than you know where to go next and now have an excuse to pull the head.

It won't overheat from a bad radiator cap, you'll just lose coolant slowly. Obviously, if you let it go for weeks and the coolant gets too low, then you will start to run hot.

Get a new cap, drive it for a couple days, THEN report back if it solved the problem.

Not true, If your cooling system is not pressurized it lowers the coolants boiling temp drastically.

When your cooling system is pressurized it raises the coolants boiling point.

I'm not saying it absolutely will overheat but its a major possibility.
