Default Faint ticking while engine is cold

What could this be caused by? It sounds like an exhaust leak but it goes away once the engine warms up just a little. I have heard it could be the catalytic converters on the catted TSP y pipe also. The car has pacesetter long tubes and LM1 exhaust also.

Could it be lifter tick? Maybe a bad header gasket?

Ya im thinking a posible header gasket issue if it leaves once warm (the gasket expands). Have you tried to tighten all the header bolts to see if any were possibly loose? if not give that a try.

The car is going in at the end of next week for a heads and cam swap and will get new header gaskets, New lifters and lifter trays. That should take care of it. You are right it does sound like a header gasket leaking. What ever it is it goes away once the exhaust warms up

No it has a stock bottom end. The car has 55,000 miles on it but the engine only has 25,000 due to it being replaced a couple years ago by the dealer ship. The engine was replaced because of some problem with the oil galley plug.

Still have the air pump? If the air pump is still there and wired up it will make a noise until the car is warm.

If you have headers that have the air tubes and it's in sometimes the valve goes bad and makes a "fluttering" sound kinda like what your describing.

If you don't still have the air pump I vote for exhaust leak.

Ticking LS1 engines are very common, some have it, some don't. Mine has a ticking noise and comes and goes, i'm told not to worry about it by a GM certified mechanic.

Its not piston slap. piston slap sounds different more like a hollow knock. I had 2 1999 trans ams that both had the piston slap. My first 99 I bought brand new and it had the piston slap. This car doesn't have the piston slap for some reason I know thats rare. The ticking is less noticeable than piston slap. I also noticed something else a little wierd my heads lights and dash lights would flicker like the volt. regulator is going bad on the alternator but I played with the wire on the back and that went away and then I can't even hear the ticking any more. Maybe I just havent noticed it I don't know I don't see wha tit would have to do with the alternator.

does it sounds like a relay clicking on and off or something? hmm my buddy has this weird ticking/buzzing type noise coming from his alt but goes away when the car warms up.
