Default What kind of problems will this cause?

I went out to the car to warm it up (it was 12 degrees outside) and decided to take a peak under the hood and noticed this hose looks cut or split. What kind of problems will this cause. Is this an easy fix? What is it for?

The hose from the PCV system that connects to the passenger side of the intake is notorious for rotting and cracking. They're hard to get by themselves too. If you do have a leak it can cause the motor to run a little rough.

That line is NOT supposed to be "cut" or "split".

Not a huge big problem, but get it fixed.

mine is the same way, I haven't played with it yet but i posted this not too long ago and thought the fix was regular 3/8" fuel hose as a replacement.

You should use PCV hose. It is more resistant to deterioration from crank case gases.

As far as problems go, the crack in that line creates a vacuum leak, which can make the car run lean and idle rough. You might get a check engine light for codes P0171 or P0174. Do a little research on here as to how to fix it, I know that buying the actual part from the stealership costs a ton.

It probably does have some oil around that area because where the bigger tube is its covering the PCV valve (positive crank ventilation). Its a common occurrence that oil gets sucked up and a little passes by the pcv valve, so thats what you are seeing. Search for "catch can" and you can see some more info on this.

Both of my LS1's did this. Removed the mushy elbow things then capped and plugged. Both cars ran better and no more oil in my intake! Cost about $3 to do both.

I have this exact same problem......I am throwing codes p0171 and p0174 on banks 1-4...and I have a crack similar to his......but the funny thing is I started getting those codes after I got a tune........could it be the tune or this actual tube and what is a cheap and easy way to fix it?

I don't think that crack can throw codes.

But just take that hose off and go get a new piece at an auto parts store. Slide it on the intake and then slide the PCV nipple on and you're done.

So could it possibly be the tune I had done this afternoon?.......in a couple posts above it said that it could cause the code p0171 and p0174 that I am throwing......

Any vacuum leak, including a crack in the fresh air hose, can absolutely cause a lean condition, which is what those codes are for. P0171 = lean bank 1, P0174 = lean bank 2.

That is very true but I am showing p0171 and p0174 for banks 1, banks2, banks3, and banks4. Do you still think it could be that hose?

Where are you getting this information? Your engine only has two cylinder banks, driver's side and passenger side (unless you drive a Bugatti Veyron with a 16 cylinder engine) . P0171 is for the driver's side, P0174 is for the passenger side. And if there is a crack in that line, that is almost certainly the cause of these codes. That doesn't mean there couldn't be other problems, but you must replace this hose first to determine that.
