Broken Windshield Question???
Broken Windshield Question??? i cracked my windshield on my 2000 camaro SS a while back and never got it fixed. Over time the 5inch crack traveled all the way up my windshield. I'm sure this is a dumb question ,but i would just like to make sure. I found a windshield from a 1998 Trans am on craigslist for cheap. Will it fit my car?? Also how hard is it to change a windshield on a F-body? anyone have any experiences? or should i let a professional do it??

Its not something you can do if you haven't done alot of them before, its not easy. It takes special tools and know-how to do it right. Getting it out is a bitch from hell. You need to piano wire the bottom out and cut the rest with a special tool.
Bring the windshield to a professional shop and pay them to do it. If I were you I would go over the cars interior (dashboard, side posts and your interior in general up there where they will be working), that thing is so hard to get out they usually will mess something up.
My dash was cracked when the guy leaned too hard on it, they had to pay me $135.00 for a new one. The front half of the top dash cracked. They also cut into my plastic side posts with the piano wire because they were too lazy to pop them off, which takes about 2 minutes. They had to replace those too.

These cars have one of the biggest windsheilds in the auto industry. You definatly do not want to attempt doing it yourself. A glass shop screwed up the one on my '97, leaked like hell and I wasn't real happy even after they fixed it. But I only was having it changed to trade the car in.

Like stated, Have a professional shop do the job. Most insurances have full glass coverage by default, so it probably wont cost you anything. Verify that the shop offers some sort of warranty on the work.
Make the call, make the apt, drop the car off, about and hour and 1/2 they should be done.
I researched and found a local shop that replaces the windsheild with the same OEM glass. So my new winshield has the exact same markings and blue tint shading at the top. Some probably dont care and thats fine too. I just wanted an exact replacement.
