do it yourself tuneup Ive never worked on my own car, but i really want to start doing the work myself. I have new ngk tr55 plugs and msd wires. i also bought a new fuel filter. i have a fullsize jack and the normal rachet set, are there any other tools im going to need, or should i just get somebody to do it for me. and if i do it myself what should i gap the plugs to. I keep hearing .055 but im not sure.
and make sure when you take the filter out the o-ring on the line to the front of the car doesn't fall off the flare it's tiny i almost lost mine
you will hear clicks when you press the wires on the coil's and the plugs, don't overtighten your plugs either

To change your spark plugs you will need:
A ratchet
5/8" deep socket for spark plugs
Extension and swivel
10mm deep socket or 10mm ratcheting wrench (for the coil bracket, a regular socket will NOT work and a regular wrench will take you forever)
For the fuel filter, I dont remember what size wrenches you will need, but like the other guy said open your gas cap, and relieve the pressure out of your fuel system. You do this by taking off the little screw on cap at the end of your driver side fuel rail, which will uncover the shrader valve. Get a paper towel and press on the little needle and a little bit of fuel will squirt out. Remember to use lots of rags for the fuel that will drip out of the line going into the filter.

Verdad Gallardo The goods. I don't remove a single thing like coils or brackets. Nothing at all is in the way of any plugs.
I lay across the lid and with my left arm/hand, I reach back to the rear passenger side plug, same with the next 2 plugs on that side. The front one is easy. The drivers side is plain simple.
Its all about the little tools. And hopefully the person that put the plugs in the last time didn't crank them down heard like a dumbass. Hand tight, then a tiny little snug is all they need.
These tools are for the passengers side. Regular sized ratchets for the drivers side. And remember to be careful not to snap that coolant sensor off just above the front plug on the drivers side.

i find it easier to take the passenger side coil packs off.. just a few bolts holding them (i didn't put the ones in the way back, back on, gives me a little extra room thats just me though.
Yeah, since I reach with my arm all the way back along the top of the headers, I never even touch a coil pack when I remove/replace spark plugs. The coil packs play absolutely no role in the project. If they were all taken off the job would not be any different.
Might as well get some anti-seize and that boot grease stuff. Here is some very good sites:

well i finally got the nerve to do it myself and when i was doing the 5th plug i broke the powerstering resevoir. So i got it towed to a shop to finish the plugs and do the resevoir. so now im a few days without a ls1.
dont really know, the hulk must have put the plugs in, bc when i was tring to break them loose i had to get a longer rachet handel. When i went to break the front one loose on the driver side it broke the hose off the resivorie.
Fools!!!! I don't know why people crank spark plugs down so tight. Hand tight only, then put the ratchet on it and literally give it a tiny little tug. Been doing mine like that for 11 years and they come out like butter. I have no idea what "butter" means, but you get the point.
