Default Charging/Battery Issues?

Alright, my battery does not alway charge and is very random as in it will not charge when it is cold but ussually after about 5-10 mins of running it would then show on the gauge cluster that it is indeed charging. So I thought that was odd but didnt think too much about it until one day after school the same thing happened but this time it also threw an SES light as well, and the battery would not show that it was charging no matter how long I ran it.

The next day, I got the codes scanned from Autozone and the codes are P0161 which states Heated Oxygen senser bank 2 senser 2. It also threw code P0174 which states bank 2 lean and code P0171 which states bank 1 lean.

Then after getting the codes scanned on the way back home I could not turn my TCS on (it was stuck off), my ABS INOP light was on, and my BRAKE light was all light up on the dash. My question is could the battery/charging problems I am experiencing be causing these codes to occur due to lack of voltage going through the system? Any input or advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Alex

Yes, it can. Sounds like you have a failing alternator. Get the battery checked first, just pull it out and take it to Autozone, they check them for free. If its still running you might want to drive it there so they can also do an alternator check. You should find your problem.

Mine did the EXACT SAME THING. I had the alternator replaced free through Chevy and after it went bad for the second time, they said my brand new Optima battery was bad. I fought with them to keep checking. They traced the wires to the PCM where the pin for the alternator is. The pin was loose and it caused the alternator to not charge. They replaced the pcm and another alternator and it's back to normal.

Why do these cars have so many problems with alternators? I just had to replace me as well.

Alright, well my dad and I took some time tonight and removed all the screws on the alternator but we cannot drop it out of the car. We have spent easily a half hour or so trying to get this thing out and cannot figure what to do. Any advice on how to remove it would be great.

Did you get it broken free from the mounts? Just loose where it will move.

If not try a rubber mallet. If it is moving and you just can't get it past the electric fan and K-Member...you need to try to turn it and roll it around a little bit. It will drop out.

Did you pull the excitor wire plug out of it too?

Ya, its free from the mounts and all wires. I just cant seem to be able to get it out. Did you guys remove it from the bottom or top? And will it help to have the car raised or on the ground?

You should be able to pull it foward towards the fan, when its up against the fan you will then roll it around and try to find the sweet spot that will allow it to drop striaght down from there, in front of the K-member.
