Default Plug Wires...Wow

My '95 Formula has been off the road for going on two years. I'm trying to get it back together now. I'd just like to make the observation that a plug wire change is surprisingly difficult. The DS was not that bad, but the PS...hoo boy! I'm being careful to route the wires as close to the factory way as possible. That is slightly difficult because I am using 8mm wires, which do not actually fit so well in the wire holders that held the factory 7mm wires. Lesson learned there. But to get at that curved plastic wire holder under the power steering pump, where all four wires are snapped in and kept away from nearby pulleys, is just plain ridiculous unless you have Smurf-sized tools and hands but Godzilla strength. The factory manual says to unbolt the power steering pump, then disconnect the lines from it. Ok, I unbolted it but there is NO room to get a line wrench or even a combo wrench on the pressure line fitting on the bottom of the pump, no matter how I angle the pump or my wrenches. So I decided to take the pulley off the pump (even though the manual says this is only necessary on V6 cars) so I can access the line fitting. No room in front of the pulley to get my puller on, so I need to remove the radiator and yada yada. All for plug wires!

Not much new to contribute here, as I am sure this has been dealt with before. Just venting.

haha yeah i did a plug and wire change the other week. I said screw it and left the stock wires on the passenger side. Ill get to them some other time

Remove the power steering pump to replace plug wires????

It takes 10-15 minutes to change plug wires on an LS1. NOTHING gets removed or touched except the plug wires.

This is an LT1. I have the factory GM service manual for '95 F-bodies. I am following the directions to a "t." I can scan the relevant section that states to remove power steering pump if necessary. If you do not remove the pump, or at least the pressure line under it, you CANNOT access the curved plastic wire holder that the wires snap into to keep them away from the serpentine pulleys. Unless maybe if you have the arms of an insect.

You are better off that way. I have been working on cars since the mid 90s, and I feel like a noob with this one. No room to do anything...so frustrating!

I did the plugs and wires when I had my 97 t/a and yes it was PITA like you said. DS piece of cake, DS oh god! I got the wires to go where they originally were but it was a bit(h on the PS, and I didnt remove anything other than plugs and wires, it took me like 6 hours for all of this s#!t. It sucks!

At one point, I thought about ignoring the manual and trying to get the old wires off the PS and the new ones on without removing the PS pump. I might be possible (and it sounds like you did it) but there is literally maybe 3/4 of an inch between the PS pressure line and that curved wire harness. Not much to thread either end of the wire through, then carefully snake it to where it has to go.
