^Softener sheets worked great for me

While I was stationed overseas from '95-'05 my '70 GTO sat in storage for a good amount of that time, no rodents ever made their home anywhere in my car. My brothers '67 Camaro wasn't so lucky, one winter he didn't use anything and the little bastards tore all of the padding out of the rear seat.

I tried moth ***** before with success, they work but the car stinks for weeks after you get it out of storage.

Seriously though, get you some Fastrac pellets of Contrac blocks. They kill rats really quickly. A buddy of mine that worked on a farm was having a rat problem and used these. He found something like 50 dead rats after a few days. Spread it around the garage by all the likely entrances to kill them and keep as many out as possible.

Dryer sheets work for keeping them away from places. The best option from what I've heard is to get the cheap store brand sheets that you can smell from 5 feet away when the box is closed. Should do the trick.

I had field mice, I think, in my garage in the winter. They looked like rats to me! One night I was working in the garage and kept hearing things. I then found a large hole in my dog food bag. So I went to home dept and bought all kinds of stuff. I laided down a trap and bags of poison. Next day I had 4 of them *******! One on trap and 3 on bait. I never felt so gross! They ate through the metal screen where the ventalation is.

Dryer sheets work good - but eventually they dry out. Then they become a great material for spinning a nest.

A small bag of Fox **** hanging from the master cylinder usually does the trick. They're available at hunting stores, or the Lincoln/Mercury dealer I used to work at

Buy some glue traps, they are really cheap
put them under your car and a couple in the engine bay-

that might help eliminate them

try having a ferret sleep in your car at night,

YOU NEED TO THOROUGHLY CLEAN YOUR ENGINE BAY!

If they are crapping on your engine, the crap is what is attracting more rats. They are somewhat "clean" animals and always go to the bathroom in one place. So - you might check to also see if they left any reading material behind. Rat feces attracts more rats.

In the end, animals look for food/shelter/other. If you aren't storing candy bars in your engine compartment and there is other shelter around, they are probably paying you a visit for the "other" reason.

So I put a box of softener sheets in my engine bay, and so far no poop. It also helps that my car is in a better area at the moment away from the trash. The real test is when it goes out on the street again.

You can spring a mouse trap with your finger and won't even get a bruise; try that with a rat trap and you'll prolly get a broken finger... I've seen the head of a decent size rat severed almost completely off from a rat trap (was left hanging by a thread of skin). We used em in our garage when they were getting into our snack foods. For some reason they wouldn't eat the cheese bait, but died for the cheese doritos every time...

It sounds like the softner sheets works. If they stop working, try the rat traps.
I've never used this kind of rat trap, but it looks pretty deadly
