Default window motor keeps burning up wtf??

i bought my ls1 a year ago and a week after buying my car with considerably low miles on it i had to replace both window motors within a week of buying it..... aside from that they were both good for a year until about 2 weeks ago my driver side motor took a **** and i noticed the smell of something burning i thought..... i replaced it right away and a week later it just crapped out again what is causing this ??

I would look at the conversions around for applying full battery voltage to your window motors. By design, they receive less than that, even with the motor rated as a 12v motor. As the motors wear, they will draw more current than intended after already starting life in a deficit in that regard. This will cause them to overheat and burn up. Bet that this will cure the problem.

+1 on the fix
From what I understand, the drivers side gets full voltage -or what voltage is fully available. The drivers side is the issue. The "fix" is a kit that contains a relay and harness that put available voltage to the passenger window as well. I haven't heard anything to the contrary of this working out well.

The problem is with your motors. If you stick with the OEM design, this will continue to happen. If you buy a new motor, (instead of a reman) they should last longer for you.

Even my original motors from the factory died out at this rate. Once I went to a different design, everything has been fine.

Ummmm i've had my Autozone motor for over a year with no problems. Maybe the OP is replacing the motors with cheap motors?

The real issue is that GM put a vintage 1970 motor in the car. There are multiple ways to solve the problem. (Wiring bypass/relay, new design, hand crank, General Lee window treatment, etc.)

The Lifetime warranty only applies for the first purchase. That means you only swap the part once, and then you have to pay for the next one. This being said, I have an Autozone driver window motor in my driver door lol. Been good for almost a year now; although I try not to use the windows.

Maybe that's how it works in Florida but over here in Cali it's different. On my old SS I removed and returned 3 alternators(leaking p/s pump) to Autozone, no questions asked.

I prefer going to NAPA, lifetime warranty and the price is usually about 10% cheaper than that at Autozone, O'Reilys, Advance, etc.

Damn I hope so! I've had problems before, but that was in Michigan.

When I went to take back a starter for my buddies 82 Camaro. Autozone swapped out the starter the first time, but the second time they told us to get fucked and explained the lifetime warranty only applies to the first part.

All the terms are on the receipt and there is some fine print. In general, they will replace over and over and over again - as long as you have the receipt. Its very important to make sure you get the original receipt back or get a replacement with new warranty info back when they do the switch-out.

Doesn't autozone window motors = Lifetime warranty = cheap Chinese part? But then most of the parts going into our American cars are foriegn made to begin with, I suppose.

I haven't had problems getting Autozone lifetime replacement parts replaced multiple times either.. They have been really good here about standing behind thier parts, Chinese or not.

Maybe Autozone ran into legal problems then. When I had the problem it was a long time ago; 2004-2005?
