Default starting issues

Replaced the starter on my car because the old starter had a cracked solenoid housing. Now once in a while I get the 'click'. It's not the starter, more like it's not getting a signal to the starter to turn on.

What can be causing this? Battery and starter terminals are on tight, no corrosion. It's not VATS either, no flashing SECURITY light. Fuses? Worn key?

There 'ya go. Its probably just getting weak with regard to cranking amps and about to die on you. I'd suggest taking it to your local auto parts store to have it tested. (Or if its an unsealed battery, it may just be low on water.)

It's an Optima Red Top and I had it tested before I replaced the starter.

I'll check the volts with a Multi-meter.

Yep, the battery at 6 years is twice over the warranty period.

Testing for volts won't gague the strength of a battery. Good voltage indicates that the battery is charging, but if you charge up a weak battery, its still weak.

Cranking Amperage is what is needed to get the engine turning and the capacity of the battery will decrease over time. (Cold also decreases the Cranking Amperage, hence you'll want to compare batteries by their Cold Cranking Amperage designations.) Most auto parts stores have a rig now that they can test the battery on and check the CA capacity.
