Weirdly Shaped tube near intake. Update!
Not sure if this is where I should post this....but here goes.
I'm a total noob to the F-body world so forgive me in advance if I am incorrect with the things I say.
I have a 94 Formula. Yesterday my buddy told me we should check to see if the air filter is clean because I've been having some weird problems with my car. He pulls the filter out and it's clean...As he's getting ready to put the filter back on he drops the clip into the hole beneath the filter. So to get it out we had to pull the whole assembly out....the hose running from the engine...the airflow sensor...and the filter area itself. Anyways...As he's pulling it out we see this long plastic pipe come out with it.....I can only describe the pipe as looking like a horse *****. I'm just wondering what the hell it is and if it's necessary? My buddy is only familiar with the LS1 and he says he's never seen anything like it.

Its normal. Its just a part of the factory elbow if its the part im thinking of. You can buy like a trick flow elbow that eliminates that from it. its just there to make your car slower.

its actually there to silence intake noise. OP there are 3 things you can do to fix it. you can waste your money on a trickflow or 1LE elbow, or you can fix it for around a dollar. go buy a bottle of V05 shampoo and cut it in half. take off the "horse *****" (its called a silencer btw), and push the bottom of the bottle up until it sits flush with the inside of the elbow. you will now have a homemade 1LE elbow

Update. I took pictures of what my buddy and I did today. I decided to try the V05 bottle trick. I told my friend about it and he decided this way was better.
I told him that's not how I was told to do it on here but he bet me it would be fine like it is. My question to you knowledgeable folks is if it will be ok like that or not? In case you can't see what he did....He just cut the bottle in half and shoved the bottom half up into where the silencer used to go and clamped it. He claims it's even better than it was before.
Oh and here's the fabled "Horse *****"!
