Default Tried to start, then clunk and hole in block.

I have a 2001 10th anniversary Firehawk. Seems it just crapped out on me. Tried to start it to go to work. It turned over then made a loud clunk. There is a hole in the block on the driver side. Ran fine a week ago. Came back from vacation and this happens. Oh did I forget to mention during vacation I totaled my raptor at the dunes and screwed my leg up. Anyway looking for an explination so at least I may know why this happened. I am also looking for another motor to swap in LS1 or something better. Is there any good write ups on LQ4 swaps. What else fits. I love my car and don't have a lot of money so I will be very thankfull for any suggestions.

find another ls1.. but it wont be cheap.. maybe you can buy a used shortblock and swap over everything else? Im sure you still have alot of good usable parts.

Try your insurance. I've seen where people get insurance to help them. You might end up with the long end of the stick in this situation.(mods)!

Yeah, try insurance, it does work sometimes. Tell them you slammed a pot hole and you started hearing a clunk, when you pulled over it stalled and you saw a hole in the block. Just find a good pot hole to blame it on.

I'll be selling my current 427ci engine pretty soon, when my new engine is done. BUT...I'm gonna take it out and have it torn down and gone through from top to bottom...then have it rebored out to 4.125 so it'll then be a 440ci. Then have my builder put it back together with all new bearings, rings and gaksets....basically a new motor. I was gonna auction it off to the highest bidder. Cola crank, it'll get new Wiseco 4.125 pistons, it has Manley rods. Only thing it needs to be a 600+ RWHP engine is better heads, intake and TB. It'll make an easy 500 RWHP when its rebuilt with the current heads/intake/TB.
Just in case you want a big giant stroker motor..........it'll be one big *** bolt-on mod

Was the car sitting outside? Was it raining? I know every fbody i've ouwned leaked water arounbd the cowling onto the top of the engine when it rained. It can find its way past the fuel injectors and fill a cylinder with water. Then you try to start it and you have a mess. Look for signs of water in the intake or a cylinder. I always seal the cowling and check it in the rain to be sure its not leaking water.

What causes this, and is there a way to prevent?
