fuel pump relay....

fuel pump relay.... had the car for a while, and every now and again it seems like the fuel pump relay will get hot or will not want to activate (kinda like VATS). I can go to start the car, and it will turn over and get spark, but no fuel.
I can go to the fuse box and pull the FP relay, and tap it or swap it with the AC relay, and it will fire right up.
anyone heard of this problem, or a way to fix it? i have yet to troubleshoot it, but will spend time chasing wires when/if i get time.

That puts a different light on things. Check the wiring coming into the relay on the bottom side of the socket, and make sure the contacts for the relay where it plugs in are clean and uncoroded.

ya i checked that and cleaned it too. it can be where i put a new relay in, and it will work fine for several months... then one day it wont want to work. then the next month or 2 it will be good, etc, etc...

Still sounds like a contact issue. I've had battery terminals do the same thing till I replaced them. Have you looked where the wiring attaches to the contacts? I think I'd probably re-solder them just in case.
