firebird headlights
Does anyone have an idea to why the headlights move up and down when locking and unlocking the door locks? Also drivers side headlight sounds like the motor is still turning when headlight goes down.?
Either sped the money and get the brass gears which I can say you'll only have to do it once, or if your on a budget, for a quick fix you can pull the headlight motor and flip the gear 180 degrees until that side strips.
Definitely read the sticky. FYI, I've done the free fix and it lasted about 3 years...but was free and took less than 30 min to do both headlights. Just recently I upgraded to the coated aluminum gears. I'd say if you plan on keeping the car, buy the new gears, if not, do the free fix.

I just replaced one of my headlight gears about two days ago with an aluminum gear. I had already done the quick gear turn so that one had to be replaced. It's no big deal replacing the gear and it'll cure your headlight motor problems for the life of the car.
Does anyone know why my 1986 Firebird headlamps will not go up automatically when flipping the switch? The lights turn on, but won't flip up. I have to crank them up manually. They will go down automatically when flipping the switch off, so it's not the motor. I'd appreciate any insight as to why this is happening and what I can do to fix the problem. Thank you.
I'm gong to lock up this thread. All future discussion on Firebird headlights are best had over in the Firebird forum since they are a model-specific feature and there is already a sticky and lengthy technical discussion about them over there.
