Default Courtesy Lights?

Hi all,

I have a 98 TA Convertible and my question to you folks is:

Sitting behind the driver seat, I have a "light" on my left side and one adjacent from it on the right side.

Not sure if you call these courtesy lights.. .or not.. but they do not work at all........... I replaced them with new light bulbs and still a no go...

I had the engine on..... headlamps on.. dimmer switch all the way up until it clicked and still a no go..

Any idea what could cause them not to work.... and what they are actually called?

*BUMP*

I know this is old, It was advised to me that the BCM is the culprit.

Before I send it in to the mechanic and spend around $500.00 for the BCM, was wandering if any of you tech gurus can shed some light as to what else I can check / Fix, this has been an ongoing issue.

Done so far:

Checked fuses
Replaced bulbs
Shop says its the BCM

Hmm..not sure, I have a 2000 TA and I don't have these..never seen them on any of my friends TA's too. Are those options only for that year?

I believe so...

All TA's should be equipped with some sort of courtesy lights for safety reasons. Each model is different.

I'm pretty sure the "courtesy lights" are the little ones in the door handle plate. These lights are specific to the convertible and take the place of the dome light on the coupes.

They should work when the doors are opened or the dial switch next to the headlight switch is turned all the way.

Huntergreen - Do they work when you turn the dimmer switch next to the headlight switch?

How about the lights on the rear view mirror? Do they work when you flip the switches and when the door opens? If so, its probably not the BCM.

... If it is the BCM, you should be able to do a repair and will probably not need to fork out $$$.

Yea - that's pointing to a BCM problem. There is a common occurrence with solder joints cracking:
