Default widow motor out.. but how do you lower window to fix

I know this is a common question on here about window motors going out and how to replace them. My question is how do i lower my window to get the motor in the car?? I have tried to push down on it but it will not work. I have looked on the shoebox how to page but it seems kinda hard to follow.
The shobox instructions says nothing about the window being half way down but the chilton manual im trying to follow says it does...

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

Front side door window regulator assembly with motor assembly.
Drill hole through window regulator sector gear and backplate.
Install bolt and nut to lock sector gear into position.
Rivets.
Push rivet mandrel out of rivet with a punch.
Drill out rivet.
Remove rivet fragments from hole.
Motor assembly (83).
INSTALL OR CONNECT

Motor assembly (83).
Rivets.
Remove bolt and nut used to secure sector gear.
Front side door window regulator assembly and motor.
(94 camaro)

with the motor un installed the window should just go down with a little force unless the regulator is jammed? What vehicle are you working on?

Im working on my 94 z28. The bad motor is not out thats the problem . The way i understand is that to get to one of the rivets to drill out the window must be down half way

I am about to install mine next weekend hopefully. I thought the window would want to be up? Perhaps not, on my 5th crown and coke...

What ever you do don't drill out the rivits holding the window scissors (the mechanisum held to the door by rivits).
