Default Burnt DRL pigtail

anyone know what may have caused my DRL and turn signal bulb to blow. Not that this part of it is wierd, but the socket is all brown and crispy, obviously she got a little hot! what gives here?

Personal opinion is because the bulb is on as long as the car is. Incandencent bulbs aren't know for being cool, unlike LEDs. Both of my DRL/Turn sockets were like that while I was blowing them. I ended up getting new ones (with longer pigtails) at Autozone, and new bulbs. Haven't had a problem since but I don't believe I've changed them that long ago.

Change both sockets for less than $20.00. Don't buy them at the dealership.

They are cheep to buy at autozone or checker/kragen. I always have extras. As soon as I see one starting to cook I replace it. Same ones as in the link above. I have yet to have a replacement melt on me. Really easy to do and you can leave some extra wire on there so you can pull them out farther next time you change a bulb.

thanks for the "words of wisdom" guys. I just found it strange that the socket burnt up, guess it's not so wierd. My Dodge just did the same thing with a fog light as well.

Its another one of GM's horrible, idiot designs. If the socket screwed into place "from the top, facing down inside", then the sockets would never get wet and never burn out. This design has any moisture pooling at the bottom of the blinker/drl housing, which sits in the socket and burns it out.

But it also very well may be EXACTLY what GM wanted to happen, so they can sell new sockets.

I disabled my DRLs. The sockets should last me 2 or 3x as long this time around.
