coolant odor

Default coolant odor
My car has a coolant smell when driving and its just a strong smell that goes away with in 10-15 seconds. The radiator cap ,waterpump and the heater core are all new?

When I turn on the ac the smell disappears.

If you replaced the heater core because it puked on your carpet, that's probably where it's coming from.

The heater core was not leaking i held on to the original one it'still good.

JFP installed cartek stage 2 heads and cam with a ported ls6 intake .My car is a 98 how do they run the coolant cross over pipes at the back of the motor when they install an ls6 intake ?

Don't know about the coolant crossover.

How long ago was the work performed on the cooling system? If you spill coolant and don't wash it off good you may have a smell that lasts for about a week. Anything more than that and it IS leaking from somewhere. Were the old spring clips re-used on the hoses? They can lose their tension when they are removed and should be replaced.

Well if the smell as anything to do with on off a/c or anything with the blower motor thats only a heater core.

FWIW my car will randomly stink like coolant in all kinds of different situations for almost 3 years now and its never had a single issue with any coolant or cooling related problems. I always thought it was just another perk of owning an f body

Mine has the ls6 coolant crossover tubes.Its problely making steam @ the top of the heads cause the back is plugged.
