Default A/C compressor out?

Driving to work today my air quit working...so I pulled over and lifted the hood and saw sparks coming out where the A/C compressor is. Turns out the A/C Compressor is blown. So I did a little research to see how much the go for. Anyone have any suggestions? THis is the list I found.
Oh..its for a 2002 corvette Z06.

After a recent thread on here, I started looking into new compressors only since the price is so low. . .

Look on eBay, you can get a kit including accumulator, orifice tube and compressor for 200 Bucks. . .

Screw a reman at this price for new. . . .

you could always get one from a salvage yard...i paid 60 bucks and works like a charm...alot of times if it doesnt work you can swap it out...so for like 60+30 bucks in refridgerant and 30 min of work = ice cold a/c. If you go this route obviously dont get one thats off a front end collision car and make sure it looks good...the one from the salvage yard looked 10x better than my original one anyhow.

About 5 years ago my original A/C compressor took a ****. After getting prices from private shops and a couple dealerships, I decided to just let the dealership do it. It was only about $200 more than the other quotes. But the dealership gave me a lifetime parts and labor warranty, all the other places were like 90 day warranty BS and remanned compressors. I got a brand new AC Delco and the rest of the parts.

So I'll never have to spend a dime on my A/C system again.

Just a thought for ya.

^ All true. . . . .

My suggestion is to work on it yourself. . . Buy all the tools. . . It will cost the same if not a bit less to get all the equipment to do it yourself as taking it to a shop + You have all the tools for later projects.

But, that's just me. . . .

But also, for about the same cost as all that, or maybe a little more.....you can just pull into the dealership for a lifetime of 100% free parts and labor for any future A/C problems.

That was the deciding factor for me.

When it comes to ac thats a great way to go. UNLESS you REALLY know what you are doing you will be fixing it over and over.

Don't get dad new socks or a grill brush this year.
