Ticking Noise around 2000 RPM
At first I thought this was an exhaust leak but after further investigation there seems to be a strange ticking noise coming from the engine that starts happening at 1900 RPM's. When held at 1900 RPM it's consistent and fairly loud. Above those RPM's it starts to gets quicker and not as loud.
- Happens with or without A/C on
- Felt the relays while this was happening, they seemed fine
Any ideas???
Thanks

I think I am suffering the same issue you are having except mine almost sounds like a slapping sound. Either way, I can maintain the noise by keeping the engine around 2,000 rpm. I have not noticed any degradation is performance as of yet. I am not throwing any codes either. Figure anything out on this yet?

i have it too.for me its slight piston noise sounds like a slapping. I have noticed a lot of ls1 engines have this, i brought it to a lsx specialist and he said i wouldnt worry about it. I am in no way telling you guys to ignore your engine noise because i have no idea what could be wrong with yours. As for me after hearing the specialist and a few other people tell me its normal and hearing multiple ls1s with the same noise i just ignored it. Some days its louder than others, but its been like this for 20k miles and i have found no metal shavings in the oil and my car has been running fine so IM just going to ignore it.

thanks. Just keep us up to date.
Everyone seems to say the same thing. Either it's just how LS motors sound or it's my cam or piston slap. I just wanna know for sure it's not something destroying itself before i ride it out..

Thread is a year old. However, did anyone determine what the problem was that caused the knocking/slapping sound at ~2,000 rpms?.

The cause of the noise maybe air getting into the lifters from the pickup oring. It very common, it will quiet down at a idle but as son as you rev the air starts to collect in the lifters and they tap. Seen this many many times.

Here is an example of the sound I am interested in knowing its cause, www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcRv9px135o.
From time 0:09 to 0:12, if you can ignore the low frequency hum of the exhaust as well as the hiss of the air being drawn into the carburetor, you may be able to hear the clacking/knocking sound.
