Default Idler Pulley/Belts

Where to buy a new idler pulley? Mines making alot of noise now, recently took off my belts to see what the problem was and found out its the bottom idler pulley.

And what belts are you guys using? Ive never got new belts for any car, so not exactly sure if there's a better brand out there or what.

Makes alot more noise now but i think it may be because of taking the belts off and putting them back on.

Are you talking about the idler pulley's on the main belt or the A/C belt?

Goodyear makes replacement pulleys for the main that you can get at just about any parts store that carries their stuff.

well have you tried your local autoparts store? i.e. O'Reillys, Autozone, ect.

As for belts, some people swear by Gatorback belts, but really you get what you pay for in the end.

Any parts store should have replacement idler pulleys (except for the A/C one, I have YET to find anyone who has it, even the dealership).

One thing to do though, pull the idler off, peel the orange rubber bearing seals off, clean out the nasty black **** GM calls "lubrication" and put some good lube in there (I use Magnalube, but any decent high-temp grease should work). Even new pulleys come really short on bearing grease, which is what causes pulley failures.

I believe when I got my Lower A/C Idler Pulley I got it from O'Reilly's... which had it overnighted from their warehouse.

We don't have those around here, but I've tried Auto Zone, Advanced Auto, two dealerships, and Rock Auto, and they all send me the normal idler, not the a/c one.

Wound up repacking the bearings in the old pulley and that fixed it, at least for now.

Its the pulley that the arrow in the pic is pointed to, the bottom 1 of the 2 down there.

Tricky one. This thread has one option: https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...need-help.html

I believe the only other option is to replace the whole tensioner assembly or try to re-pack the bearing yourself.

Goodyear is only an option for the main belt pulleys. I don't believe they make the smaller ones for the A/C belt. That other post said that he was able to get the Daycos to work for the small A/C pulleys.

I greased all of mine and the bottom one like urs just started squealing bad one day. Autozone had the replacement dayco and its steel instead of plastic and it came without the whole tensioner assembly, i think it was $25

Thanks for the pic Badguy7. I can look at the engine in my car and see all those but the full frontal gives me a good idea about where to route my wrenches. That is after I take off the ram intake etc..can I get to alternator idler without removing the alternator? the alternator itself was a PIA working from under!
