Default Rattling Noise during WOT

I have had my LS1 for a couple of months and it this engine deffinitely has been touched by the hand of god . But during WOT I recently starting hearing a rattle it sounds like its coming from my engine bay . They best way to describe the sound is loose exhaust shields . But I checked them and the are solid , so what else could it be ? I have an 02 ta with 65,XXX . The only mods are adjustable cat back borla , lid , Free ram air . Thx in advance yall

I've got the same problem too but I've narrowed it down to a transmission issue. I guess the bearings in the 182k mile old T-56 are starting to show their age. It sounded suspiciously like never ending detonation from the motor at first.

I had this same noise during the summer. The noise would start at about 4500rpm and go till redline. The noise has gone away it seems with the cooler weather. Still not sure what caused it.

it could be the motor mounts. they kinda sound like loose change rattleing. Mine made a rattleing and got under it and saw that my mounts are ripped =)

true! mine does rattle well i cant call it rattling its a bit of shaking at idle when i first start my car it feels like something is lose shakes like a plastic is hitting something. i had my LTs installed and i was too excited to install engine mounts i checked them and they looked great but seems like they are dry..so am guessing its your engine mounts if not then check for exhaust shakes. good luck. and yea car has ~ 125K miles.

I had this exact same sound on my bone stock z28 with 69000kms on it. I spent 5 hours with my tuner "Overkill" getting an in-car tune. You can find him at www.getoverkilled.ca. Guy is an amazing tuner and great person.

Even with 94 octane, I was getting pre-ignition, which sounded like a "rattle/crackling" from the engine bay. the factory tune on this car is retardedly setup, when the temperatures dip down it wants to command almost 26o of advance ignition timing, AND the AFRs are only 11.4-11.5 under WOT(confirmed by wideband). This results in pre-ignition, even with 94 octane gas. I was getting the same rattling/crackling sound from my car and it wasn't cool. Got Overkill to give me a full tune and the car just hauls *** now, probably picked up 10+RWHP or more from JUST a PCM tune! Crackling is now gone, now I run 91 octane with 20o of timing and a 12.5-12.8 AFR. I highly rec. contacting Will at Overkillmotorsport at the website above.

Im gonna put a post up in General section as I noticed a lot of people have this issue, and it lays solely with the car FACTORY tune. HTH, I rec. to you to have your car tuned by Overkill, or at least get the car scanned by someone to prove what im saying.

Have sort of the same since 6 or 7 months, drove me crazy, sometimes there sometimes not.

Today,it turns out, rattle was in the flat part of the y-pipe and it is blowing out pieces of catalityc convertor now; on my car.

It does not throw any codes, yet.

See my thread...

Greetz.

I've seen water pumps rattle when they have a lot of miles on them. It could also be the material inside the cats has come loose.

Guys check your exhaust and heat shields. Get under the car and bang on the y pipe some and you will probably hear the rattle you are looking for.
For me it was a loose 02 sensor rattling around.

Makes sense.

I had rattle at idle and found out it was the y-pipe hitting on the tunnel brace. Not sure if a factory y pipe would do this but its worth checking around on the exhaust. Y pipe used to bang on the floorboard at WOT also and poly motor mounts was the fix for that.
