Default UUGGGHHH Window not moving!!

I get in the car this COLD morning and roll the windows down to clear the mist from them and go to roll the drivers side up and NOTHING happens. No noise, no stutter, just silence. So I have to ride into work freezing cold.

It did not do anything odd on the way down so I do not know what it could be? Since it is not making any noises is it likely a switch issue or bad motor? I was going to pull the window up but it was down in the door pretty tight so I decided best not to make it worse. Any ideas on what it could be? I assume it would not be a fuse because that would affect both windows?

After thinking about it I am thinking it is the switch. I have had a motor or two die on me and they always just slowly die. The motor seemed to get the window up and down quickly every time and when I first tried to roll it back up I got nothing, no noise, no slow movement, just silence. The motors I have had die on me in the past kind of slowed down and died, not just quit. I found a switch at autozone, no one else in town had one sadly so I will head there and pick it up.

Anyone replace one of these before? It looks like the little panel with the controls for the locks, windows and mirrors would just pop off and you would then just have to unhook the power from the window switch, pull off the old one and put on the new one and remount? No need to take the door panel off I hope?

Any info would be appreciated!!

You could check the voltage and make sure it's getting to and from the switch before buying one. To get it out you don't take the door off, just pry up on the back of it and pull it back.

To be honest I know nothing about electricity so I would have no idea how to test voltage. I have not seen the plug side of the control yet but I assumed one cable powered both switches for the left/right window on the drivers control so if the passenger window is still working would that mean it is still getting power and that the actual switch itself is bad on the drivers side or do they have separate power cables going to each switch on the control?

Just need to check it with a test light, IDK what color the wires are but I'm sure someone else on here does.

Ok not the switch. There is a fuse for windows but only one so that is not it. I have to assume window motor at this point.

Would a window regulator cause this? If the regulator was bad I would hear the motot turning right?

it could be the window motor, they are terrible in these cars and nearly need to be changed every other oil change, lol. My passenger window would not move when i first got my car and i replaced window motor and it works fine now. window motors arent too fun to change on these cars but can be done in a few hours tops.

Yea I need to figure out how to get the door panel off so I can do it tomorrow after work. Autozone has one for $56 with a lifetime warranty so I will just keep track of my receipts if it happens again =(

ANyone know of a guide for removing the door panel? I checked it out and there are some screws here and there but some instructions would be nice if anyone has seen any?

Woot found this link

For those of you that have done it, does this seem a good way to go about it?

Without knowing how to test electrical, anyway to know for sure if it is the regulator or motor? I am going to buy whichever tomorrow but I dont want buy one and it be the wrong part.

The window went down and just never came up, no noise when you push the button. I have looked online and people claim that symptom could be either. Anyone here have a more thorough answer to help me out on identifying which it is?

That's the guide I used when I changed mine out.
It's really not as hard as it looks. The hardest part is
locating the rivets. It helps to print the picture out.
Good luck man.

Thats the guide I mused too. Once I had the door panel off, which is cake, I had my old motor out and the new motor in......in 10-15 minutes. Done.

But....about 4 years ago my window stopped and was stuck down. After you get the panel off, take a hammer and smack the spot on the door where the motor is. I did that and it came alive and worked for another 4 years. I know you have a new motor and want to probably just change it anyway....but if it does start to move at least you can get it all the way up...which is where you want to have it to change the motor out easier.

Well I forgot a body shop here in town owed me a favor from the last time I had to fix their computer so I took it up to him and had him check it out and it ended up being the motor. The previous owner had already replaced it but did a crap job of mounting it back up and the motor was all loose and it wore it down. Motor looked brand new but it would not turn for crap.

Body shop replaced motor and I am good to go.

Thanks guys!

Replacing the motor and not the regulator is one of the biggest wastes of time. ALWAYS replace them together, they cause each other to fail.
