Sure the tick isnt the coil. I've had 2 go bad and they would tick when they went out.

It's not the coil. I took the plug out of #1. Clamped it to a ground with the plug wire attached and fired the engine. I videoed the result (too boring to post). The new Iridium plug fired perfectly. However the sound of rushing air from the empty plug hole was noticeably missing. I could briefly hold my finger over the hole and felt nothing. I know I sound like a shade tree, I am a country boy.

After a month now of riding a bicycle I'm ready to drive the best car Ive ever owned! I'm in better shape though.

I pulled the rocker cover and found a snapped rocker on #1. It was the first rocker on the head, It was snapped at the very tip. I'm not sure if that is intake or exhaust. Could someone clue me on that? They are all the same so it didn't mater as far a genuine GM parts were concerned. Picked up a new one at the dealer. Guess what? No love again! I thought I had the problem for sure. What the heck?

Noise is still there blinking (over 20-25 mph otherwise stays on steady) SES everything is the same.

Would a video of the engine running help anyone?

BTW, sorry I didn't respond sooner, but if it's driver-side it's not as bad as you imagine. Just take the check valve pipe lose 2 bolts, coil pack rack about 6 and the rocker cover about 5, 1 rocker bolt.

Really, its not that bad.

Best regards

I would have bet that also would have been it. Does the cylinder have compression now? If the rocker was broken in the first place it shouldnt have been keeping the valve open so you still should have had compression. Make sure th pushrods on that cylinder are also ok. Next thing I would do is maybe get an obII scanner and monitor the engine while its at idle and see whats going on. BTW I dont remember what the exhaust valve is on that cylinder but if you look at the valves just line up the one on that cylinder with the first primary on the exhaust manifold the valve that lines up with the primary is the exhaust

That makes sense. Thanks for the tip. But all new problems have developed. I came home tonight with AAA as my escort on a flatbed.

I wanted to go pickup a few new tools tonight to help with this repair, it was about 5 miles. By the time I got to the store smoke was pouring out the exhaust so thick you really couldnt see a thing. There was crunching, ticking and I thought even a knocking and this incredible amount of smoke. I was sick. I couldnt listen to it and see the smoke I had to shut it down.

Now its in the garage. I have a super tight budget and it looks like a complete overhaul 185k miles. Its not like I didn't think this day would come. I just loved driving it so much the miles racked up. She still looks super clean and very stock, that's the way I like my cars stock.

So tomorrow, first thing, I will drain the oil to see what if anything is in the crank case. Then pull the rocker covers and probably the water pump and timing cover. Unless somebody has any better advice.

I probably should start a new thread. I am going to start a new thread, a blinking SES light is the least I have to worry about right now. I will start the new thread as "Should I do a Stock Rebuild or Not?". Thats the link.

Thanks for all of your help and interest.

That's the bad news.. I'm not a great person, so it's never the easy side.. lol.. It's the passenger's side. I got pissed off and haven't even been dealing with the issue. I did order new O2 sensors though, since I did start popping O2 codes. I've still got to run a compression check
