i would just give the regulator a try. both of the replacement alts that i put on were brand new delco also. i got the reg off ebay. it's just a cheep one but it works great! for $8.00 you can't go wrong trying it. if you decide to do this make sure you have a solder gun.

I've switched alternators between the two... No change.

Then, I switched batteries between the two while the alternators were still switched... NO CHANGE! lol

These problems don't necessarily have anything to do with alternators, guys... I checked all grounds, and all battery cables/terminals, grounds are clean!

Still trying to figure this out myself.

Just raised the drive idle and neutral idle of my black Trans Am to 600 and 850 (I throw it in neutral at long stops and red lights), and it's driving me less crazy now... But once the fans go high speed, it doesn't matter what alternator is in the car!

Anybody?
I'm running the same alt. Thinking of maybe getting the regualtor beefed up or something

Has anyone checked the wires that go to the starter or any wires near the PCM?

It is a loose ground bolt on the back of the drivers side head, 15mm. It fixed my flickering.

Really? I noticed that the flickering doesn't happen when the key is in the on position but the second I actually start the car it flickers then goes away once warmed up. I will double check the ground on the head, but if it still does it what could it be? This is pissing me off lol

I don't know how so many people have charging issues, especially with these aftermarket super-duper alternators.

I put a PepBoys Pro-Start in mine I think like 5 years ago, lifetime warranty and its 100% perfect.

It doesn't falter AT ALL....even with a 1000 watt stereo blasting with a 12" woofer hitting, lights on, A/C on with fans on high with my 427ci.

Whats the deal?

.

It's not a charging issue at all. My battery and alternator are 100% fine.

I have a hard time believing it's my alternator seeing as this just started about a week ago and I'm not having any charging/voltage issues. When it was pulsing I checked the amps/volts and it was fine.

it might not be. i put 2 brand new delco alts in mine and had the same results, flickering lights and voltage jumping around. so after checking all grounds (not kidding) front to back on the car and testing the signal wire from the pcm to the alt, i came up with nothing. on a hunch i bought a voltage regulator off ebay for 7 or 8 bucks. i figured i can't go wrong just trying it for the price. after i installed it in my original factory alt i started it up and all was normal again. if you have checked everything els and still couldn't find your problem, i would just give it a shot might work for you might not, but it worked for me. for the money i think it's worth the gamble.

Well my issue is getting worse and it's driving me crazy. I'm going to be ordering a brand new alternator sometime today or tomorrow to see if that fixes it.

i hope your not going to buy a delco. thats what i did twice and both performed the same as my bad factory one. put a new regulator in and i was good to go and still going strong today. i wasted so much time trying to find the electrical problem and there wasn't one. spend the extra and get an oem alt, or try replacing the regulator on your factory alt.
