Default Terrible idle

I bought my 1999 Z28 with the six speed in the first week of march. It's been a great car, runs excellent, well until tonight/this morning. Yesterday I drove from San Bernardino CA to Yucca Valley CA, the car ran excellent. I got home last night, drove it to the store, came back, all was well. I go to drive to a near by city, start the car, by the time I reach the end of my street it's surging. I continue driving for a block, now when I put the clutch in and let it return to idle the RPM drops to 300, bounces back up to about 800, and fluctuates between.

I turn around and bring the car straight back. I use a different car to make my run to walmart. I purchased some carb cleaner to check for vacuum leaks, didn't find any. I start the car again, and it's running fine, I drive it around the block and I get a check engine light. I bring the car back home and hook up the scanner. I get the code p1071. I didn't find a vacuum leak, so the scanner told me MAF was likely to blame. What should I use to clean it to attempt a solution? Where should I start in determining the problem?

You might want to check your spark plug wires, they might not be hooked up properly to your coil packs, make sure they snap into place properly...u have to apply a good amount of pressure to snap em into the coil packs properly and u also might want to check if the spark plug wires are hooked up properly to the actual spark plugs ive had this problem before and thats what what causing it

Sorry for the late reply. I found and fixed the problem. Apparently the... Well smart guy for lack of a better term, who previously owned the car took the lid apart and couldn't figure out how to snap it back together. He taped it together on the inside with electrical tape. The tape let go and was blocking a good third to half of the screen right before the maf. Removed the tape, problem gone.

I was gonna say plug wires also, as I had one disconneted once (don't ask why or how...don't wanna talk about it hahaha) and it did the exact same thing. Glad to hear you fixed it and it was something simple.
