Didn't see it mentioned, but I used a PLJX bypass kit (link to instructions page) on the alarm w/ remote start on my '95 Corvette and am installing one in my TA now. The box is under $25 shipped on Amazon. It reads the key resistance and duplicates it to bypass the VATS.

It requires some wiring ability though. For the LT1 cars: battery & ignition power, ground, VATS wire, and alarm (if using with a remote start). See my attached diagram I modded for the Corvette. Later cars used one or two more wires. It will permanently fix VATS problems like the ones in this thread. A Google search will likely turn up someone that has used it on your vehicle.

One other tip: Solder those connections. Foldover taps/Scotchlocks lead to intermittent connections.

From the above site:
"Self Learning" unit designed to bypass all GM vehicles equipped with Passlock I, Passlock II, VATS, and the new style Passlock immobilizer found in the Saturn Ion & GM Colorado, Canyon, Cobalt, and Pursuit.
