Default Winking Firebird

My 1999 Trans Am has started to wink at me (only one side goes up) occasionally when I turn the lights on. I checked to make sure it was not physically blocked from going up by the hood or anything, so that can be counted out. Could it be a blown motor? It still does work, I just have to hit the switch a few times.

So, sometimes it comes up and other times it does not? If that's the case, you probably just have a blown gear.

Usually, unless the plastic is just in bad shape. I tried to do that with mine and it immediately stripped out the other side. Of course, the headlight control module was out at the same time so it wouldn't stop running.

I had bad luck with the gear flip also. I also had bad luck with servicing gears on the stock motors because its difficult to secure the cover back on.

I just went to the Cardone motor. They have a removable/screwed cover, which will make gear changes easy in the future.

Okay, I'll try out the gear flip today, see how that works, and probably order some replacements soon. Thanks for the help

Please do. I took out the headlight today and got the headlight motor out, but I have no idea how to take the motor apart. I broke some plastic clip on it, but I don't think that'll be a big deal after I put it back together, right?

Also, I think next time, on the other side, I'm going to try taking it out from the bottom instead of the top. It'd probably be a lot easier

BTW - Not all brass gears are the same. If anyone goes that way, be sure to get the one with the rubber insert in the middle. There is a reason the stock gears also come with that insert...

+1. I went with another package and paid the price. This is the one with the rubber insert that will protect the metal gears from stripping.
