Save or Scrap?
My 97 Z has some problems and im looking for opinions on what I should do. Ill be deploying within the next few weeks and when I get back ill have between $20,000 and $25,000. I'm attached to my Z but unsure if I should get rid of it and buy a different body style. My PS pump leaks like crazy (having to add fluid every other day) my oil pressure hovers around 10psi at idle. It needs a paint job, windshield, window motor, and I need to solder the ecm behind the passenger kick plate to stop the radio and windows from cutting out. Also i want to replace the front clip with one from a 98-02 camaro. Should I sell it and buy a newer one with the style I like or wrench it out?

Well, the power steering pump sounds easy enough to fix. The oil pressure, the paint job, windshield, (window motor insignificant), and radio/windows cutting out is a lot of stuff to repair though. If you like the newer styles more, then buy one. Your car is practically totaled in that it would cost way more to fix than its worth, and fixing it won't bring up the value much either. You could probably sell now for 2k. Fixed, after spending 4k, sell for 3k. Better to sell now, than spend all the time fixing it and then decide you do want a different body style.

Sell it. If you're coming back w/ that kind of cash and you want to put a 98-02 clip on the car anyhow plus it needs all that other stuff.... you could buy a 98-02 Z in pretty darn good condition for 6k-8k. Plus the 98-02 would have an ls2.
Quick search from my local Craigslist.

Firebirds always seem to be more expensive, probably since there's a newer model of Camaros that everyone likes which brings the 4th gen price down, but they can still be found cheaply if you look.

Man, hate to say it, but I'd also sell and buy a VERY nice new car when you get back. Who doesnt like working on a damn near new car? Takes the agony out of wrenching on a "beater".

If you're into searching on Craigslist, try going to craigspal.com, there's a program there you can download that lets you search multiple places at once and in multiple categories, which helps a lot when buying cars off of it. It saved me a lot of time looking, and it's how .

probably the best decision you could make. Theres no reason to be a dummy like me and buy cars specifically to spend every single paycheck on them. and get a second job to make more paychecks to spend on the car...
