Default does anybody elses car surge?

my car has always done this, its a 98 ls1 m6 camaro........everything is running fine with it, but if i have it in 3rd and driving at 4000 rpms or so, and i gun it, the entire car surges 2-3 times......when i do this, there is no power loss or anything.....it happens in any gear above 2nd.....if its in 6th or so at 1400 rpms, and i just quick smash it to the floor and then let off real quick, it surges 5-6 times, but surge 1 is always the most noticable and they get smaller......so like surge one is bigger than surge 2, which is bigger than surge 3 etc........idk.....i have no power loss anywhere so just wondering if this is normal...also, if i smash it in first there is no surge at all.....thanks

This could be many things. The best way to pinpoint the problem would be to find a friend who has a decent scanner that can read the PCM PIDs, hook it up, and do some data capture during WOT. Look up what the normal PID values at WOT should be, determine which ones are out of whack (if any) and from there, you should be able to come up with a more pointed diagnosis. But without any data, I'd just be throwing darts at the wall blindfolded.

yea its going to a tuner shortly anyway to recalibrate for a gear change, and yes it surged before the rear swap.....also, the shifter goes all over the place when it surges too if that helps.......

The shifter moves? Something isn't mounted properly. Worn or failing motor or trans mount would allow the motor/trans to shift, causing the shifter to move unnaturally. That shift could also be tweaking the throttle cable under WOT, causing your surge. Check 'em.

How old is your cllutch? Maybe it's worn or there is a hydraulic issue with it?
