Default key resistance

ok i am having issues with my vats and security light and a intermitant no start. it will start if i wait the 4 minutes. i have done a lot of searching on here about the vats resistor bypass but am confused. both at the car the 2 white wires and on my key i am reading 4.74 ohms...what resistor is needed for this value?

according to your link wouldn't i be a #11 key...dont mean to correct just being sure?
so for 4.74 measured with 20k i would need a 4k resistor and a a 700ohm. i would connect them end to end to be in series right?

GM key code chart pellet code 11 is 4750 ohms. Yes you would want to solder them in line with each other to achieve your desired resistance.

Radio shack carries a 4.7k resistor. If they didnt you would need to combine two higher resistance one to make lower resistance.

This absoloutly works! I had the same problem and just made up a bypass from the link in post #2 and it worked great No problems what so ever. Thanks for the help guys. One question though, will it last forever?
