Default 98 LS1 Formula: all lights surging

When I crank my car up in the morning is when I notice this the most.

The lights in the dash, park lights, headlights, every light fluctuates from bright to slightly dimmer over and over again. Upping the RPM's dose not change anything.

Any ideas on where to start?

See stickies in the electronics section. There are a few different opinions however the most common reason is a loose connection on a PCM under the passengers side dash

Mine did the same thing, the headlights looked like strobe lights. Put a new alternator in and have had no more issues.

alternator or battery failing.....
take the car to autozone and have the battery tested with a load...

i'd say you've got problems inside the alternator.

generally when this happens, either a diode is going bad, or possibly the brushes are going bad.

the flicker is caused by a failed diode in the rectifier within the alternator,
i don't believe you can replace just that in late model alternators anymore, not a part you can easily obtain, you'll need a replacement alternator.

Mine was doing this, and it was the alternator. Never did it again after I replaced that.

Thanks for the direction, guys.

I'll check the PCM connection first, then take the alt to have it tested.

Mine doing the same right now. I just recently replaced my battery and alternator. Could be another bad alternator I got? Sorry, don't mean to highjack your thread.
