What now?
Has it been dyno tuned?
1 year old oil is terrible to have in there.
Running it like you are at idle.....if it hasen't been dyno tuned or run HARD for its first few miles.....you could be ruining the ring/cylinder seal. You have to tear it down and re-hone and re-ring it if that happens....
Stop running it, until you can dyno tune it or run it like a sumbitch.

I understand it this way:
The rings have very little pressure up against the cylinder walls at idle. As rpm's increase the rings get rammed up against the cylinders walls, allowing them to dig in and seat/seal against the cylinder walls evenly. If you don't do it that way, you could have lower compression in all cylinders and uneven wear from that point forward. Once the cross-hatches are gone, you do not get a second chance to break it in.......a rebuild is all that will fix it.
Every LSx engine since 1997 has been run HARD right after it was built at the factory......maybe a mile or two was put on it. But they were run hard....
Here's how it should be done:

You'll get many different opinions on what oil to use. All my engine has ever seen is cheap *** Castrol GTX 20w50.....for 167,000 miles. It still runs perfect. I suggest you do the same. There is absolutely nothing special about the LSx engine, its the same as every other V8 in America........it does not need or require special oil. Unless you have wacky tolerance purpose built race engine......you will not get better protection than you will get from regular old oil.....3,000 mile changes are a must.
