Default oily residue in exhaust ports??

The number 3 & 5 exhaust ports have a black & greasey look to them compared to the rest of the ports which have a black chalky look. There is 94,000 on the motor. Rings? valve seals? PCV?

thanks

Valve seals.

Did you get a brief cloud of white smoke out the tail pipes when you went WOT from a steady cruising speed, then it cleared up as you stayed on the pedal accelerating?

Honestly, I never really noticed any smoke. I never looked.

Yea, only real way to get wet oil onto the spark plug threads and/or the exhaust ports is if its dripping down into the cylinder after the engine is shut down. Because when the engine is running the oil will get burned and blasted out for the most part.

Leakdown check can tell you if the valve seals are bad.

I would think if you had a bad ring allowing that much oil to get by and still be wet....you would have a ton of oil burning white smoke all the time.

When my valve seals went bad I had raw wet oil on my spark plug threads......when I hit the pedal to the floor from 50mph the sudden drop in pressure would suck oil in through the leaky valve seals from the valve coverts, and that would create a big cloud of white smoke out the back. As I continued to accelerate it would then clear up totally as I kept accelerating hard. Thats how I knew it was bad valve seals. I took my heads off and they were all bad.
