Engine sputters during driving
While driving the car it has a sputtering sound and loss of power and when stopped it has a hard idle. My service engine light now comes on. Could this be a problem with the Mass Air Flow Sensor? If anymore information about the car is needed I can provide it. Thanks.

I got the scan on the car and it came back 'Bank 1 too lean'. What ive read in the forums is the same as the feedback to my thread about the 02 sensor being the issue. There were few post that mentioned the MAF too.

Ok I had the o2 sensors checked and it wasnt the problem. It was suggested that the MAF might be the issue. I'm going to have it cleaned first to see if that resolves the sputtering issue then have it replaced i f the code comes back again. I was looking at this MAF as a potential replacement:

Any suggestions or comments? Thanks for the support.

Ok i thought I would update this thread now that the problem has been solved. So after replacing the O2 sensors, cleaning the MAF and then replacing the MAF becuase it didnt fix the problem, it turns out after a air leak test there was a hose that that came loose under the battery platform. No more sputter, hard idle or computer code.

The mechanic said this hose is used to provide extra air to the enigine to keep it cool. It was broken and sucking in bad air causing the o2 sensor to send the code to the computer. I meant to post a picture but did not have a chance to do it. I will post a pic by today or tomorrow.

It does run along that side and down under, then over to the drivers side where the air pump is.
BUT...I don't know how it could cause problems because after you start the engine it shuts off and the valve closes. Thats how I thought it worked anyway.....
My pump and air system has been removed. No emissions here.

Please don't tell me he changed out your muffler bearings too. Extra air to cool the engine?
There is a lot of us on this site that have the some problem as you looking for a solution. If this was a vacuum leak he should tell you.

The air pump hose......supposed to pump air into the system on cold start up. Then shut off. For emissions control.

OK I have a picture of what I am talking about but I dont have a URL address. I can email it to someone for posting. The picture points to the hose that goes down under and just to the right of battery compartment if your facing the car looking down. Let me know if anyone post it in this thread. Let me also say I am no mechanic nor do I have a great knowledge of cars. I know the basics and this is what I was told was causing the sputtering issue.
