Default Car just died, what happened??????

I was driving to work, car was running fine, and I turned down the street got on the gas, car just sputtered and died, tried to crank it back on and it would fire up and die again. Only light that came on was the check gauges light (it does have gas).
car was running strong, it's got 91K miles but this was very sudden, just died.
As it was struggling to stay on and died I did hear an air/wooshing sound coming from the passenger side header area.
any ideas?

thanks

You don't need a MAF. I drove for two years with mine unplugged. Same gas mileage, same power, same everything. If anything.......it will idle a little rough at cold start for like 30 seconds.
