LS2 Swap, Boiling coolant and pouring out fill/reservoir cap ???? stumped :(
whats up, ok so i have an ls2 swap in my 00 ws6 procharged with prc heads and a custom cam, upon shutting down the car after it sits for about a minute i can hear the coolant boiling in the radiator and then starts to pour out of the fill cap/ coolant reservoir until it cools down, it does NOT do this on cooler days and at night time when its not so hot out. car while driving stays around 200-205 but in traffic starts to climb but it has never overheated. i am stumped at why this is happening!!!!! driving me crazy! thanks for any help!

well.......
have personally done this myself and had the same exact problem...
check your steam pipe from the engine, and the hose that goes to the overflow...the steampipe/hose needs to be on the bottom port on the radiator, and the overflow bottle hose needs to be on the top port on the radiator...
thank me later

I'm not sure about that but if its on backwards it will partially block the water port iv seen a thread on here with pics I think I searched blown head gasket and seen it but its been a few months

I had this same problem, I actually replaced a head gasket over the deal (what a waste of time...) The overflow tank hose was hooked up to the bottom nipple of the two by the fill cap, instead of the top one that is operated by the fill cap (the spring in the cap regulates it). switched over and tada, fixed.
If the steam pipe valve goes to the highest nipple on the radiator, you know you've got a problem. Stupid mistakes will getcha, live and learn though right?

If the coolant starts rising and coming out the radiator fill neck....that usually means air in the system. The air could be getting in there from a small leak somewhere, then when it cools down it sucks in air. Or its coming in from a leaking head gasket.
Do a coolant system pressure test. Or, let the engine get up to operating temp, put the front end up on ramps and about 10-15 minutes later get under there with a flashlight and look for leaks/drip lines.
These damn water pumps don't always blow and just pour out coolant....some leaks are so damn tiny they will only leak after the engine is turned off and pressures and temps rise for the next 30-40 minutes because theres no fans or ram air doing any cooling.
