Default Please help! Overheating Issues

I own a stock 2002 WS6 Trans Am. It runs fine and the temp never gets above 210 but when I shut it off I can hear it bubbling like it is hot. first time I noticed it was last week at a local car show and when we parked it was blowing some fluid out the cap of the fill neck. ( Nice ) thought we may have somehow loosend the cap when we were detailing the motor but that does not seem to be the case as the cap was tight. I leaning toward the thermostat or possibly the water pump? Any one else heard of this problem? B

I had the very same situation happen on an '02 Monte. Car ran fine never got hot. Stopped shut it off and it would bubble and water would be coming out the over flow from the radiator. Found out - I had a blown head gasket. Compression is leaking past the cylinder seal right into the water jacket. Pressurizing the cooling system way more than the cap can handle and so the water escapes though the overflow. Took the head off and it was plain as day where the seal was blown and where the compression was leaking into the water jacket. Sounds like you have the same problem - hope this helps. Easy way to test for this is do a leak down test on each cylinder. This test is usually to test for bad rings but it will also give you an indication if you are losing compression and if that is the case and the water continues to come out you have a bad head gasket.

Thanks for the reply, but that was not the answer I was hopeing for. But then again I am thinking if the water pump or thermostate was bad the gage would be reading hot.I guess I will do a leak down test to see if I am losing compression. If that is the case should it only be leaking on one cylynder?

Default update

Checked the hoses at the steam pipe and overflow and they were indeed on the wrong ports. i swiched them to the correct ports and took the cap off and let the car warm up to operating temp. everything was fine until the thermostate opened and started blowing water out the radiator every time i try to top it off it just blows out like a volcano. pretty sure a have a bad head gasket. not sure wich side? any ideals

Default problem fixed!!

Ok I let the car cool down and topped off the radiator and now have the hoses installed correct. let the car heat up to operating temp and cycle mutipal times drove car and then let idle for a while, everything seems fine!! now when I shut it off I hear nothing no bubbling. Temp is just fine. I think the problem was the hose for the overflow was on the bottom port and the hose from the head was on the top port.
