Have you replaced the battery? Spark plugs and wires? Changed the fluids (Gear, trans, brake, coolant)? If you have the engine open, I would replace the timing chain and oil pump.
Most people wait until parts fail because it can get expensive.

I ended up replacing all top end gaskets (not head gaskets) also swapped valve seals, valve springs, oil pressure sending unit , and knock sensors. I sent the fuel injectors out to be cleaned and flowed.
Once the intake manifold is off, accessing the top of the engine becomes much easier, and whle you are in there, you might as well go after the low hanging fruit.
BTW, It is also a good time to take a good look at the PCV system, the hoses and fittings seem to get brittle and break at the back of the engine after a decade or so.
Does the LS6 PCV system come in a kit of some kind (just personal preference) and yes a knock sensor needs to be replaced.
I bought my car used but I read somewhere since its a 2002 T/A it did not come with a EGR system is this correct......and if not will I run into issues putting a LS6 PCV system into that mix ?

And the stock PCV system is the cause of our motors eating oil, which you can switch to the LS6 which helps with the issue.
