I stick with the Amsoil EaO 64s, or the newer Wix/NAPA Platinums.

I also have NO PROBLEM with the M1s, K&N Golds, or Bosch Distance Plus filters.

These types of questions usually devolve in to garble. People "like" what they pay money for. It doesn't matter if it was a good choice or not.

As well, this stuff changes. Filters are made by one manufacturer and marketed under another, manufacturers change, manufacturing locations change, materials change, etc. A good filter 5 years ago may be constructed differently today and vice versa.

I my case, I don't really care that much about my oil filter right now. My wife won't approve funds for engine mods until its time for a rebuild. So, I want my engine to slowly wear out as quickly as possible. (Isn't that a mind bender?) I just need to avoid a catastrophic failure.

You sure did have me racking my brain.

Everything that I could possibly think of came back to "that can't be good".

Exactly - you'll save a ton! If you want to invest in a minor veterinary procedure, you can also pretreat and infuse your oil filter so you have a simple one-step process at your oil change.

On a more serious note, this thread has some good tidbits and a link to BobIsTheOilGuy's filter forum: https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...il-filter.html

Searching this site for posts by Patman (a former admin on the site) will yield some great info, as well.

Wow! That is sure going back into the vault!

I can't help but think the OP is like "well... **** it" after bursting his bubble on a stock of 20 Fram filters.

They might be great. Which type of Fram filter is it? If its the Xtended Guard, you've got a great filter and I wish I had come across that deal!

This thread (also linked above) has the best comparison I've read on oil filters and some of the Frams are very highly rated for build quality - including the Xtended Guard.

Going by brand isn't enough. Quality can vary widely across a given brand. Its kind of an odd thing. In just about every other product I can think of, manufacturers market different qualities under entirely different brands...

I have been using K&N #2006 "longer truck filter" for years now and never had any problems.

Plain and simple, don't use fram they are crap. Read that site about oil filters that wissix99 posted.
I have the same issue and I have a FRAM filter installed right now... I thought it was just "piston slap" but I am very excited for my next oil change now. Won't be going with FRAM, that's for sure!

I flip around but usually go K&N for the nut on the bottom. I can still get an oil filter wrench on there (it's tight) but the nut makes it easier with headers.

I would have tried the Fram Xtended guard which is supposed to be one of the best filters out there now, but Autozone was clean out.

At the very least, they'll be good for skeet shooting.

I use either the Wix 51522 or K&N HP-2006 "truck" filters. They hold a little more oil and are good. Plus with the K&N, you can use the nut on the bottom when you have headers as was stated earlier.

I just looked and don't see any filters on sale. Was it something special for Reno?
