Default Starting Woes .... '99 Z28 M6

I'm driving a '99 Z28 with six speed.

Twice today the car wouldn't start.

Key in the ignition, clutch depressed, all dash lights come on and fuel pump starts. But when I turn the key, nothing. No battery click.

Key off, clutch out. Try again maybe once or twice, and it starts right up.

Is there a safety switch activated when I depress the clutch and it's going bad? Or is it more complicated than that? If there is a switch or connection, where would it be and does anyone know the part number/name?

Thanks!

Battery click? The click is the solenoid on the starter. If you do not hear it solenoid is not engaging. potentially that is going bad. or.. you have a short in your ignniton.

Check your battery connections. While there can be a few possibilities for your problem, I had the same symptoms happen to me and realized my connections weren't tight. I used to have the shitty stock screw-in battery bolt terminals. Did a little rewiring over to be able to use batteries with post clamp terminals and the problem went away.

Or it's the starter if the connections are good, but still no click.

There is a switch for the clutch, and mine did go bad. Pretty easy fix though.

I'd check your starter relay as well. That's what my cars issue was. You can swap it with the same relay used on the fans.

I believe that it's related to the clutch switches under the dash. Here's what I have:

I think that the black switch on the left (p/n:14094368) is the culprit ..... at least I hope so because the one on the right (p/n: 10293267) is no longer available. With the white one removed, the car still starts. The white one has something to do with the "skip shift" transmission function, which is bypassed on my car. When I drive the car with the switch out of the system, the "Shift" light no longer illuminates on the dash, and the car runs normally. I thought about leaving it out, but ended up putting in back in just because I wasn't sure if the computer gets any info from it somehow.

Hopefully the new black switch solves my intermittent problem.

Don’t mean to revive an old thread but did you ever find a replacement for the white switch? Mine is broken.
