thanks for all the input guys. I'm listening to all of you. Can I put the o-rings on dry or do I need to use some sort of adhesive, like the copper spray that is used frequently with head gasket jobs? I was reading something about silicone based lubricant? I'm not too clear on this.

No, you just pull (or pry, in my case) the old ones out and slide the new ones in.

Also, like was mentioned, just pick up a Fel-Pro set from your local parts store if you need them (MS 92438 -- $20 pretty much everywhere). You might not, but I just wanted to mention them so you wouldn't be surprised. If you want to stick with OE, the ACDelco number is 12533587 and they're $57 from Amazon.

Okay cool. I was in fact looking into the Fel-pro's, as I know they make high quality gaskets. These forum discussion are great - don't get me wrong - but sometimes they can hinder my decision making ability so much that it drives me up the wall There are just so many different views based off of peoples' opinions and also experience in regards to what parts to use, or how to do something, lol.

Thanks again for your help, and also everyone else

Same here. I wish I would have taken pictures, but I only snapped one of the FelPro gaskets installed.

Oh I was also just wondering, how can I tell if the upgrade has already been done to my engine?

If you still have a PCV valve, then it's likely it was never done. Now, I say that with one caveat: the initial LS6 valley covers retained the external PCV system; it wasn't until 2004 that it was eliminated. With that said, I don't believe that the valley cover conversion really became a "must have" modification until more recently (in comparison to the life of the Gen III/IV engines), so most people that have done the modification have done it with the 2004 cover rather than the 01-03 cover.
