Arrow Car Running Hot...Need Help!!

Hey Guys,

I got a 2002 Firebird, v6 engine and all of a sudden it started running hot when sitting for too long. There's no coolant leaking though. And if i turn the heat on in the car, the temp bar goes back down to normal. Would this be a bad thermostat?

Most likely, that's where I would start at least.

I'd look more to the cooling air path, clean the condenser
and radiator. The thermostat -could- stick, but that's not
all that common; pile o' trash in the fins, after 12 years,
that's more like universal.

This guy is right, check that stuff first. I had heating issues once from debris getting stuffed around the radiator and blocking air flow.

Usually when you get hot from sitting still......the fan(s) are not working properly. When the car is moving pretty much ALL the cooling comes from ram air and the fans do nothing. Make sure that when the fans come ON....they both come on together and that they run in low and high settings TOGETHER.

If one fan is not working......check the relays.......swap the two relays and see. If the fan comes on and the other one is dead you found the issue. If so.....get two new relays and pop them in.

Putting the heat ON always brings temps down.......it doesn't point you anywhere as to what is wrong.

Ditto, I took off the intake shroud and found a Forrest in there covering up the radiator.
