Default Changing the Oil filter

How do you usually get to it - grabbing it from below or from the top? And which tool do you use?

Don't know how you would get it from the top

I'm usually able to take it out using my hands, it doesn't need to be torqued very much. If you can't get it loose go to AutoZone and grab one of these for $15:

Yeah, unless you're Elastic Man or something. LOL

I get the impression someone's trying to pad their post count... if you look at the threads created by this user over the last few days... they're getting increasingly more mindless.

How do you store your funnels? What exactly does this have to do with Firebirds? Who asks that kind of question?

Pardon the hell out of me.

I've never worked on a car before.

I loosen the filter by yelling at it... Then send my cat under the car to finish the job.

But seriously, either by hand or using a basic filter wrench if it is really snug.

Actually guys it depends on the motor that is in the car (I have yet to see Galaxy Stranger say what his car is exactly), for example the 3.8 V6 models can be gotten from either top or bottom, where the LS1 is on the bottom of the oil pan so it has to be done from under the car.

That said it seams like most of these threads would be better suited to the https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...e-repairs-102/ section then the firebird specific section, Galaxy buddy please explore the site some and before posting a random question try using Google to search it and if it is specific to F-bodies (unlike the what do you do with you funnels one) then type in the search on google and add the words site:ls1tech.com to your google search to get results specifically from this forum, you will find MANY questions have been answered already.

For the record, I have a v6 and I can reach down in front of the engine and grab it. I asked about the tool because there are SEVERAL types available and I wanted opinions because I didn't know if there would be clearance or ease of use considerations.

Do not confuse ignorance with stupidity. Inexperience does not deserve disrespect.

Nice community you have.

take a screw driver and hammer it into the side. Now you have some nice leverage or just buy a filter wrench like above.

well whatever you do just watch out for the transmission cooler lines that run very close to it (if your an automatic), personally I just take a set of channel locks and grab it (crushing it some) and twisting till it gets lose enough to un-thread by hand. lots of the reviews on those filter wrenches mentioned above talk of how crappy they are so I don't use them, and for putting it on just remember to lube up the gasket on the new filter with new oil and screw it on by hand (DON'T USE A WRENCH TO TIGHTEN).

Galaxy Stranger, don't let it get to you-it's a great community.

Word your questions a little better. And always state what year and engine you're messing with. Or create a sig that lists a few things.
